Lethrinops

Der Lethrinops Arten Komplex gehört mittlerweile in der Aquaristik zu den in der Beliebtheitsskala steigenden Fischen. Die schon 1922 von Regan das erste Mal beschriebenen Lethrinops Gattung sieht man in der letzten Zeit immer häufiger in Aquarien diverser Züchter oder Aquarianer mit dem Spezialgebiet Malawisee. In den letzten Jahren häufen sich die Neuerscheinungen und Erstimporte die ihren Reiz bei diversen Aquarianern wecken. Das immer wieder neue Arten dazu kommen liegt vielleicht auch daran, dass es sehr schwer ist, die einzelnen Arten, ob beschrieben oder unbeschrieben, auseinander zu halten. Charakteristisch für die Lethrinops Arten ist die Farben- pracht und vielfalt der Männchen, die zwar nicht knallig sind aber in den unterschiedlichsten Tönen und je nacht Lichteinfall schimmern. Lethrinops albus zum Bespiel schimmert wie ein Regenbogen. Die Männchen vom Lethrinops bauen während der Balzzeit, die man das ganze Jahr über beobachten kann, große kraterförmige Laichkegel in den Sand. Die meist an Steinen angelehnten Laichplätze können in der freien Natur einen Durchmesser von bis zu 1,50 Meter haben. Dort locken sie Ihre Weibchen zum ablaichen herein. Im Wildfangbereich ist es nicht einfach, mehrere männliche Tiere in einem Aquarium zu pflegen, da sie zum Bau Ihrer Nester viel Platz und reichlich Sand benötigen. Generell ernähren sich Lethrinops von Krebstierchen und kleinen Lebewesen, die sie aus dem Sand filtern. Man kann auch in Gefangenschaft das tiefe eintauchen der Fische in den Sand beobachten, immer auf der Suche nach Nahrung.
